That One Dress Everyone Has

I always say my older brother is the least fashionable person I know. Usually when he doesn’t like one of my outfits I know I’ve made the right choice. Many many years ago, I think even before I moved to the U.S., before I even wanted to work in fashion, he told me fashion was about people wanting to look the same as everybody else. Spending some time in Venezuela this past month I realized he was absolutely right. Down there every body looks and dresses the same! The latest trend is the Furla Candy satchel. Everybody and their momma has a Furla bag. The bag is very nice, don’t get me wrong, but there’s something about seeing it on everybody’s arm that just makes me hate it. Same goes with Longchamp bags, I hate those bags! Ugh! They’re not even pretty! Stop wearing them! Don’t get things just because everybody else has them.
All that preamble was to tell you about what I’m wearing. I was drawn to this H&M dress when I first saw it. The shape is not very me, I found it very retro, but the print, oh, the print. 2012 was a year of prints, and I was all up on that. I got it anyways, against my best judgement, right before last Fashion Week. The day before FW, during the Independent Fashion Blogger’s conference I saw a girl wearing it; and that was the start of it. In seven days I saw four different girls wearing it. I even snapped a picture of one right outside Lincoln Center. C’est n’est pas possible! I snapped these two pictures with the dress and I gave it away soon after. I don’t miss it. And besides, had I worn it every one would have known I got it from H&M. I shop there all the time, but I don’t like people knowing I do. I only tell you because we’re besties and I love you!
