What I love the most about fashion is that it has the power to transform us. You can be anything you want to be, whenever you want to be. This summer I was feeling sultry and wanted to channel a dominatrix. For Halloween I wanted to play on both my feminine and masculine side, and speaking of masculine, sometimes I just want to be a boy. For today’s post I’m turning Japanese. The most amazing thing happened to me the other day. I got to wear a kimono thanks to the kimono company Kadae NY! Kawaii! The day started bright and early with makeup artist and stylist extraordinaire Masae doing my modern geisha-inspired makeup. Just when I thought I couldn’t look any better she gave me these giant fake lashes and I felt like a cute Japanese doll- or a fabulous drag queen. Masae then put my hair up in a high bun and gave me the best hair accessories I’ve ever worn in my head.

Next up it was Yukiko’s turn. Yukiko is a professional kimono dresser. This was also a surprise for me, that people who do this professionally, but after seeing all the work that goes into it I understood. I had never worn a kimono before in my life (I honestly never thought I was ever going to!), and let me tell you, there’s a lot of layers! It took her about a 20-30 minutes to get me ready. She’d fasten something on one side, hold it with one hand, clasp something else with the other hand, she’d tuck here, pull there – she was like a kimono ninja and I just couldn’t keep up! Finally dressed and ready to go I left with my little entourage- my cute kimono girls, Ruby and Si-  to tour the streets of Midtown Manhattan. Click on “Read More” to see our adventures! (★^O^★)

Haha, this looks like it was so much fun to do!! How about if you have to pee? Is it difficult to use the bathroom? Lol

Idk if you’ve read Memoirs of a Geisha, but after dressing in a kimono you might want to. It’s a really interesting (and fictional) read.

Thanks Nathy! It was lots of fun. True story, I actually had to pee and a girl had to help me pull my tights down, and then I gathered all the fabric and di my business. Took me a long time to get the tights back on! Lol.

I haven’t read the book but I’ve seen the movie (not the same thing, I know), but I’ll be sure to buy it before I have to go on a long trip :)

I wish I could have been there to see all the faces of people as you girls walked by dressed up like that.

Wow! Whose idea was this? :)
You should be really proud of your blog. I’ve watched it evolve over the last year and it is such a delight. Very well done.
