Fashion Week is a time for excess. Excess fashion (overload!), excess after-partying and definitely excess dressing. Fashion Week is a time to see and be seen. Getting your picture taken by a street style photographer, like Scott Schuman of The Sartorialist or Tommy Tom of Jak & Jil is a great honor for anybody, but most especially for someone who, like me, works in fashion. It’s as if someone snapping your picture is a nod of approval to your fashion sense. Seems silly, I know, but I won’t be like the rest of my fashion colleagues and pretend I don’t care and then in private get angry when nobody shoots them. I dress for the camera and I give photographers want they want. Fashion Week is the only time when anything goes. Overdressing is actually expected and encouraged.

Lots of people wear designer clothes to Fashion Week. I would love to own lots of expensive items as well, but I’m just a normal girl who lives in a basement in Harlem, writes from a borrowed computer and sometimes bartends to feed her clothing addiction. I noticed in this look I’m wearing lots of pieces from H&M. Do you want to know why? There’s a store five minutes away from my apartment. When I have nothing to wear and need something cool, cheap and fast H&M always saves the day. Lots of people in the fashion industry would roll their eyes at me for wearing (and even admitting!) to wearing H&M (and Jeffrey Campbell knock offs!) to Fashion Week, but this blog is not for them. This blog is for YOU. You, the H&M-wearing, Forever 21-rocking, Zara-donning, fabulous working/studying girl. I love you and I’m nothing without you. I was MIA during Fashion Week but I missed you and thought about you every day. I’m back now, and we can be together again. Fives posts a week. I promise.
