Everyday is Showtime!
Each time you leave the house is your time to shine. Every morning you not only choose what you’re going to wear, but you choose how you want the world to see you. It’s unfortunate, but we live in a world ruled by appearances.
Think of all the people you cross on a daily basis. You’ll never get to know them all, but you can have an idea of who they are just by looking at them. Sneakers, Bermuda shorts, pastel-colored polos? Soccer mom. Black clothes, black shoes, black eyeliner, “I-hate-you” stare? Goth or emo. Tight miniskirt, lots of cleavage, bare midriff, platform shoes? Hooker. Do you see the pattern here? It’s unfortunate, but it takes only seconds for people to measure you up. You only get one chance to make a first impression. The girl in the tight spandex mini might not be a hooker, but we’ll never know.
Let me give you one more reason why you should always look good. Real-life example: my cousin saw one of my guy friends at my birthday party and thought he was very cute. Fast forward to a month later, she’s working on her dissertation. I get a message on my Blackberry at around midnight saying she’s in a store making copies and my friend is there. I tell her to go for it and talk to him. She writes back saying that’s impossible: she’s wearing too-loose jeans and her beautiful long hair was dirty and in a messy bun. There was just no way it was going to happen. Do you want this to be you?
You never know who you could meet or where you could go, that’s why you need to be prepared. Not every day calls for smoky eyes and heels, but you should at the very minimum aim for concealer and blush on a daily basis.
And remember, once you cross your threshold all dress rules go out the window. Whether you want to wear your ex-boyfriend’s shirt or nothing at all, that’s your prerogative.
